Mommy & Me    Toddler    Morning Three's & Four's    Afternoon Three's & Four's      Mission Statement

The Nursery School of Temple Emanuel provides a nurturing first school experience for ages two through four. Our goal is to help children develop a healthy sense of self, self-independence, self-worth and a love for the rich tradition of Reform Judaism, We achieve our goals by providing young children a variety of activities, including:

Creative Play
Music
Field Trips
Arts and Crafts
Cooking
Outdoor and Indoor Play Areas
Friday Shabbats
Movement

Our success has been based on our commitment to create a positive, stimulating and fun environment. We are committed to small class size and to hand-on experience "learning by doing" which allows every child the opportunity for self-expression, individualized attention in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

We encourage our families to participate in school activities such as being "Shabbat Helpers" on Fridays or grandparents sharing past schoolyard rhymes and songs, recipes, a favorite book or just to partake in our unique and joyful Shabbat celebration with the children and Rabbi. Our Nursery School has developed Outreach Workshops with the Rabbi helping young families learn about and create their own traditions for Shabbat and Jewish holidays. These workshops are designed for anyone with young children from ages two through eight years old. They are absolutely free to anyone who wishes to learn about Judaism.

The children actively participate and prepare for the following holidays:

 Thanksgiving
Chanukah
Nursery School Shabbat Service
Purim
Passover
End of Year Brunch

Preparation for these holidays include decorations, songs, stories and foods that the children have direct hands-on experience with thus fostering the traditions and purpose of each of these holidays.

Our school also provides "Enrichment Classes" for three and four year olds. These are offered immediately after the morning sessions. Children bring their own lunches from home and enjoy a social lunch together. After lunch they continue for classes in creative movement, art, drama, cooking, music, and enrichment with beginning reading and writing.

We believe that open communication between the home and school is essential in order to foster the very best environment for our children's growth and development. The Nursery School staff is always available to hear parents' concerns both during Parent-Teacher meetings and as needed throughout the year. Throughout the year we ask for parents' feedback not only concerning the current year but what they expect their needs to be or what they would like see in the future school years.

Thanks to parents' suggestions, we now offer a "Mommy & Me" Program.

Our Nursery School has been successful for almost twenty years because of our belief that every child has the right to a learning environment that is nurturing, and creative which allows each child to develop independence, a sense of self-worth and strong interpersonal skills which can only be developed through creative play.

Registration for fall 2007, Mommy Me and Summer Camp Program is currently in progress and tours are available by calling the Nursery School Office at (516) 873-5330.

MOMMY & ME

The Nursery School of Temple Emanuel is now offering a Mommy & Me Program. The program runs for fourteen weeks for both the fall and spring.

Our program is open to mothers and children who are eager to participate in story time, arts and crafts, music and movement. Each week you and your child will participate in a themed activity. These activities will allow your children to explore different mediums, have fun with peers in movement and music and cuddle with their moms during story time.

This one-hour program will give your child the wonderful opportunity to expand their social growth and offer moms an opportunity to socialize with other parents who also wish to participate in their young child's social development.

TODDLER

Our Toddler Program is geared to the 24-month-old child. For the past 18 years we have developed a successful separation program for both the child and parent. Through the years we have been able to console the child's fears and foster a positive aspect in their quest for independence. The separation process is explained to the parent(s) and the goals are clearly outlined allowing the parent to know exactly what their role is during separation.

As the separation process is progress your child immediately becomes involved in the exploration of colors, shapes, counting, holiday celebrations, music, movement and numerous arts and craft activities. This immediate hand on exploration allows your child to become distracted from the emotional aspect of separation and they become more engaged in parallel play. As the children get closer to celebrating their third birthday, they become more involved in creative play which naturally leads them into more involved group play.

Morning Three's & Four's

The three and four year old is more willing to explore and get involved in the creative play process. They enter the program with a strong sense of "me" and gradually develop the concepts of sharing, and friendships, doing projects together with their friends.

Our program is geared to help your child learn to verbally express their needs and wants. The activities we select for your children are designed to help them understand that they can be active participants rather than observers. Each child is assigned designated duties during the week thus helping them develop a sense of leadership and accomplishment.

The same approach is used in the learning activities. Each project or activity is explained to the children during circle time. Your child has an opportunity to create his or her project within the realm of their creative ability.

The three and four year old program is geared toward preparing your child for; Creative thinking, following directions, a healthy sense of self and enthusiasm for learning.

Afternoon Three's & Four's

The afternoon program allows us to creatively explore literature, math and science with the children. As your child is physically and emotionally maturing so is their interest in learning and exploring the world they live in.

Each child will have an opportunity to explore various life cycles, nature and habitats, age appropriate math concepts that will allow them to create their own games, affording them the ability to master these concepts in a fun and challenging way.

Our school has an extensive Early Childhood library allowing us to introduce numerous authors who are noted for their creative introduction to literature and language. Various
author's and book titles will be selected for your child's enjoyment and creative interpretation. Each child will create their own books to share with family and friends.

These activities have been designed to help your child develop a love for learning and exploring the world around them in a positive, nurturing environment.

Mission Statement

The Nursery School of Temple Emanuel has something for everyone. Through the years we have developed a reputation as the "school that cares".

Within our program we offer a unique opportunity for parents to join their children during our Friday Shabbat class. Each parent can participate with their child as they learn the different aspects of Shabbat and the wonderful excitement that the children have when they are with the Rabbi.

We are constantly working to improve our program and provide the children and their parents with useful life long skills. Several workshops for the parents are currently being worked on such as anxiety and separation issues, getting ready for kindergarten to name a few.

Our Nursery School offers children and their parents alike to make lifelong friends and many opportunities to participate not only in nursery school activities but activities within our friendly Temple community.

Give us a call and we will be most happy to give you a tour of our school and chat about any concerns that you may have about your child's nursery school experience.
Class sizes are limited. Please call us at (516) 873-5330 for your appointment.
