The Religious School of Temple Emanuel and Temple Israel offers a complete
program in religious education: Bar/ Bat Mitzvah Preparation, Hebrew High School
and Confirmation Programs. Our curriculum includes Hebrew, Jewish History and
Culture, Holidays and Life Cycle Observance. Our program,
spanning thirteen
years of the child’s life, also strives to instill a strong Jewish identity and
Jewish values, morals and ethics within our children. This is accomplished
through trips, social action programs and activities such as Shabbatons,
Maccabiad (a day of sporting events) and weekend conclaves. Our Religious School
has gone on trips to the Jewish Museum, the Eldridge Street Synagogue (the
oldest synagogue in New York) and picked vegetables at a local farm to donate to
a homeless shelter. Our confirmation class has learned about commitment to
tikkun olam--the repair of the world in partnership with God, through activities
such as visiting and serving meals in a soup kitchen in Manhattan as well
as trips to lend assistance and support to the Ronald McDonald House and the
Chapin Home for the Aging.
Sharon Fricano is the principal of the school. Classes are held on Sunday mornings and Tuesday
afternoons. Our Religious school is taught by professional teachers.
